Are you a musician, artist, entrepreneur, empath, teacher, or student, or do you work in a corporate job?
Our daily lives ask a lot of us—there’s never enough time in the day to do everything.
And, we’re hard pressed to find a daily life that doesn’t include interactions with people and the subsequent energy pollution.
From social interaction behind our screens, personal interactions with coworkers, family, and friends to our daily commutes, we’re in constant contact with energy all around us. Further pollution from our screen time, city lights, traffic, and noise adds another layer to this daily buzz of energy.
When we are in constant contact with all of this energy, the cells in our body shift and change as a defense mechanism. As our own vibration shifts and attempts to put us back into balance, we can be left feeling uneasy. This can manifest in a myriad of ways. Depending on the frequency and intensity of our contact with the outside world we may feel lethargic, stressed, tense, and unable to unwind at the end of a day even though we are exhausted.
Over time, when not properly addressed, the effects can compound and lead to deeper feelings of depression and even extreme feelings of anxiety.
As I began to dive into spirituality, I learned tools along the way to help me ground myself. Tools to help me sever the connection to people I had been in contact with throughout the day and ways I could release that energy from my body, which allowed me to stop the cycle of rumination.
With the enormous amount of sensory input we receive on a regular basis, our minds are constantly working to organize thoughts, solve problems, and deliver solutions. Our minds are marvelous when treated properly.
Left unchecked they can also lead to our demise.
So what to do?
Meditate
I’m sure you’ve heard of what meditation can do for our mind.
Think of meditation as dating. The first time you’re out with someone, chances are you’re not going to marry them on that first date. Like dating, there are hundreds, maybe even thousands of meditations, meditation techniques, schools of thoughts, and teachers—much like there are people to date.
The key is to find something that is simple and sustainable for you and your life. Our minds didn’t become wild in one day so they will not be tamed in one day. We must compound the effects of meditation over time.
Meditation is a cleansing of the mind. It roots and connects us to the pure vibrations of the earth. It allows the stimuli around us to settle so that we can hear what our own vibration is trying to tell us. It helps us organize thoughts so we have better clarity on what’s important and we can end the cycle of rumination.
When we exercise and work out, we give our muscles time in between to recover and rebuild. We must do the same for our minds.
If we don’t leave space for the mind to organize thoughts, settle, and receive breath, it will crash and burn. Our minds are strong, but they are not invincible. We must find a sustainable and accessible way to allow them to rest and recover before our head hits the pillow at night. Meditation is a beautiful way to let the outside energy of the world begin to dissolve so we can come back into our own state of self-knowledge and truth.
Smudge
Burning various plants, herbs, woods, or resins can have a cleansing effect in your space, as well as for your mind. The mindful practice of burning your chosen item and allowing the smoke to dismiss, neutralize, and cleanse energies that are not yours can be a powerful practice.
Smudging can be done daily or whenever you feel like your home (or mind) needs a reset. Because I have people and spirits in my home on a regular basis, I like to smudge daily.
I begin in my kitchen with sage or palo santo sticks burning, and I walk in a clockwise pattern. I get into corners, cover electronics, and move across windows, doorways, mirrors, and closets. As I smudge my space, I draw in an affirmation. Depending on what I am working on at the time I will use the affirmation in conjunction with the process.
For example, often times, I am searching for peace. As I begin to burn palo santo, I will state, “Cleanse this space of any energy that does not support peace.” As I move over electronics I will state, “May the communication and advancements from this (phone, tablet, or computer) support peace in my communication with others.” As I pass through doorways I’ll state, “May all who enter and leave this space find peace.” To end, I open up a window to let out the energy that does not support my affirmation.
Our sense of smell is an integral part of our daily life. Tethering the mind and senses to a ritual such as this is a great way to reset and release outside energies. Smudging before meditation can also be a way to prepare the mind and body for your seated practice.
Crystals
Your vibration is the state of your being.
As Albert Einstein said, “everything in life is vibration.” Crystals and stones can offer vibrations to help support us in our daily life and connect us to our goals.
Crystals have been used for thousands of years and continue to be used in our daily lives. The power of crystals can be found in our electronics and some places we might not guess: our watches, phones, computers, televisions, and other devices for communication and entertainment.
Because of their highly organized internal structure, they help us to take on their pure earthly vibrations. After all, 55 to 60 percent of our body is made up of water, and water is easy to move.
Keep your crystals close—I use them in my meditations—and allow their vibration to shift your vibration.
One crystal that is universally great for protecting one’s energy is black tourmaline. I love this crystal for balancing my own energy and deflecting other people’s energy. I use this crystal when I’m teaching to avoid absorbing anything else that someone else is carrying. It’s also a great talisman for support during retrograde periods. I give this one to all my musician friends. Musicians are gifted with the ability to speak with the universal language of music—talk about high vibrations. They tend to absorb other people’s emotions quickly and sometimes without notice.
Whether you’re a musician or not, dark-colored crystals can have an incredible ability to protect our energy and balance us back to our true and pure nature.
Water
Whether you’re in the water or the water is in you, allow water to cleanse your body and soul.
Filling our bodies with the pure, natural energy of water helps to release toxins that we’ve taken in from food, drinks, people, and energy pollution—the list is endless. Our intake of water is important for our physical health, but our ability to cleanse our energies with water is also important.
Baths are an excellent way to shed the energy field around us that’s been contaminated throughout our day. Showers can also be an effective tool to release the events from the day and provide that mindful space to let our thoughts organize and rest. There’s something to our best ideas coming to us in the shower or the bath. We’re clearing out other people’s “stuff” and giving our body and mind space to be with itself. To remember what’s important and what can be left at the door.
Infuse your bath with Epsom salts for a deep cleansing release. Essential oils such as lavender and lemon are icing on the cake to relax and revive. Baths and shower aren’t only nice to have, they’re an essential part of regular energy cleansing.
Reiki
Need an energy overhaul? Reiki is a great way to assist your body in releasing energy, not just from your day but perhaps from your lifetime or past lifetimes.
A consistent Reiki practice can mean seeing a Reiki practitioner such as myself, or becoming attuned to Reiki energy. When you are attuned to Reiki energy, you have the ability to turn it on at any time of day and give yourself good vibes, downloaded directly from the universe. If you’re unfamiliar with Reiki, the Japanese art of energy healing, more information can be found here.
Breath
Never underestimate the power of your breath. Our breath helps to detoxify our body’s cells and bring us back into a state of balance or homeostasis. When using any of the techniques above, remember to breathe. Use deep belly breaths to calm the body, cleanse the mind, and recenter to your truest self.
Knowing how to cleanse and release energy that is not ours is an essential step to maintaining balance and a clear mind. If this is new for you, start with one aspect and work to make it sustainable. Layer in the others as they call to you, and remember, your intuition is your best ally.
If you need additional techniques in breathing, meditation, or any of the above please contact me directly so we can assess where you’re at and find the best way for you to find balance.
Only you know what makes you feel like you. As you continue to work to find balance, tailor these techniques to fit your life and your needs.
