Intuition can contribute to our health and wellbeing in many ways—from dramatically saving our life, to simply guiding us towards a more balanced lifestyle.
If we learn to love and listen to our body, intuition serves our mind, body, and spirit.
What is intuition? According to Dictionary.com it is direct perception of truth and facts independent of any reasoning process; immediate apprehension; the quality or ability of having direct perception or quick insight. Origin: mid-15c., from Late Latin intuitionem – “a looking at, consideration”.
“Intuition is a very powerful thing, more powerful than intellect”, says one of the most successful people on this planet, Steve Jobs.
Read now why practicing intuition is not only crucial for our career but also for our overall health:
Intuition as energy saver.
Using our intuition saves time and much of our energy. We can focus on the most important things in our professional and also our private life. While I often spend minutes—sometimes hours, days, weeks or even a longer period of time—analyzing a situation, a processing or relationship, deep deep in my heart I already know the answer. So, why not trust our intuition more often and save ourselves the wasted energy?
I am sure we all know such situations. I personally found myself in one recently and simply could not fully trust, communicate and act accordingly. My advise: Prioritize your health, save your energy and look for reasons why your heart and gut instinct tell you something that your brain cannot process as fast as they can. I am sure you will find reasons that support your gut feeling if you only look carefully enough.
This applies especially in situations where we get to know new people.
Didn’t you ever have this good or bad feeling about a person that you barely know? I believe we all experience this from time to time. Wouldn’t it be great if we could be sure of the reliability and trustworthiness of such a new person in our life immediately? Again, it would save us a lot of energy if we didn’t spend so much time analyzing his or her behaviour over a longer period of time. Swami Vivekananda says: “In a conflict between the heart and the brain, follow your heart.“
In particular, in precarious situations where we are in danger, we need our intuition—fast. It may even save our life. Thus, let’s practice intuition constantly for our own health and ensure in this way its reliability.
Intuition as happiness booster.
“The more you trust your intuition, the more empowered you become, the stronger you become, and the happier you become“, ~ Gisele Bündchen
But why?
If our mind, body, and spirit are in balance, we feel good. I argue that this balance has direct impact on our physical and also our mental health. For example, on one hand, imagine that you constantly make decisions that are not aligned with your heart, gut feeling or instinct—instead, just with your mind and logical thinking. In such an imbalance there will be a constant fight between the two major control towers of our body’s systems. Not only mentally but also physically you will have to deal with the consequences. On the other hand, imagine you follow your heart all the time while still giving a sh*t about the mind’s logic. After all, a balanced relationship between heart and brain is healthy.
We cannot only follow one or the other. The brain knows better in some situations and in others the heart knows better. Using our intuition to make decisions accordingly makes us happier.
Intuition as spirit.
“If prayer is you talking to God, then intuition is God talking to you” ~ Dr. Wayne Dyer
All the wisdom and knowledge we ever need is accessible through our intuition. Some argue it is right within us in the form of a powerful life force; others believe that God provides this wisdom to us. I call both spirit.
Spirit has become increasingly important in a world full of uncertainty, crises and disasters. Practicing intuition can make it more easily accessible to us. After a certain period of time, we can trust it more often and rely on it; including in difficult situations. Let’s try to listen more often to our intuition, to God—to our spirit.
But how does it affect our health, you may ask?
Well, it is widely known that spirit is part of a healthy life. Mostly healthy living experts refer to meditation in this context. I argue that practicing intuition can have the same effect as meditation. It brings back a balance between body, mind and spirit. Give it a try today!
To sum it up with the words of Cicero: “Nobody can give you wiser advice than yourself.“ Please let me know in the comments below what you think of the influence of intuition on our health and how you practice your intuition. I look forward to hearing all of your answers.
