“May the Long Time Sun Shine Upon You”
The Summer Solstice, June 21 (mid-summer, when the sun moves into Cancer), has been celebrated by ancient paths and traditions for eons. Thousands of sites around the world were built in alignment with Solstice and Equinox times to harness and honour our connection to the sun.
In the Northern Hemisphere it is the day of longest light. This is also metaphoric; we can anchor in greater spiritual light at this time.

The Solstice is known to be a time when the ‘veils between worlds’ are thinner, and a period believed to actually active for around 7 days (the 3 days before, the day itself, and the 3 days after).
The days before the Solstice can be an ideal time for releasing that which no longer serves you, letting the past die as you pass through a gateway into the new. Perhaps you’ve noticed some release going on in these last few days already?
The Solstice day itself is a potent time to celebrate life and love, connect the divine, meditate, set intentions, visualize dreams, send out blessings and prayers, and so on.
The 3 days following the Solstice can, in continuum, be a potent time to focus on your dreams and next chapters and whatever you desire to anchor and call-in.
Because of the power of meditation at these times, I recommend taking some time out to meditate, open to love, light, inspiration, healing, and any shifts that may want to occur.
Whilst the Summer Solstice a time of light celebrating the sun, it is also one of integrating opposites and balancing polarities, uniting our humanity and divinity, light and shadow, masculine and feminine, etc.
It’s also great time to simply celebrate the joy of life and being alive!
Whatever you do this Solstice, whether celebrating consciously or not, may the love and light that you are and of All That Is shine through you.
Summer Solstice Ritual Ideas
A ritual is essentially about intention. Let it be something meaningful to you, that you enjoy, and engage your heart with. Here are some super simple ideas aimed to be open to all. You can use a mix of these. You may have your own. Go with whatever feels true for you. Be intuitive. Be creative. Let your heart guide you.
* Create an ‘altar of light’ for the Summer Solstice; a sacred space you can dedicate, and meditate at. Your sacred altar space might include a candle, some flowers, incense, and any objects that you feel represent the sacred or ones of nature that you feel drawn to include. That could be a crystal, statue, image, shell, stone, particular oracle or angel card, etc.
* Ask for divine support. Call upon your divine source/s of inspiration (The Universe/Source/God/Goddess/Buddha/Higher Self/Guides/Guardian Angel/s/Divine Light Beings/Saints/Ascended Masters… whomever or whatever comes to mind to call upon. This can be a process of invocation, a simple asking and opening to that loving divine support.
* Set some intentions, write down some goals, dreams, blessings, wishes, and so on. You can add those to your altar too, and feel and visualize them more deeply in a meditation experience.
* Visit a place in nature that feels particularly beautiful, enchanting and sacred to you. That may include your own garden. Deepen your connection to nature at this time. Feel its aliveness and all its incredible gifts. Send your gratitude to the earth, nature, the sun, moon and stars, and so on.
* Feel grateful to yourself, others, and the world, and all you are grateful for in your life… anything that flows into your awareness to feel grateful for past, present, and even future!
* Meditate in whatever way feels comfortable to you. That may simply be spending some time in quiet, stillness and reflection. Perhaps there’s also a guided meditation you’d like to listen to.
Below is one meditation process as a simple example. If partaking in this, at the beginning simply ask and affirm that you only receive that which is for your highest:
1. Connect to the Earth to ground by imagining a connecting line of light descending from the base of your spine into the earth.
2. Align to divine light by imagining a pure bright white or golden light flowing into you from a bright point or sphere of light above you, or by being surrounded in a sphere of light. Allow yourself to bathe in this divine love-infused light. If any other colours intuitively come to mind, allow the light to take on that colour and bask in that colour. Allow any shifts that may want to occur.
3. Allow your heart to gently open, perhaps visualizing a light growing in the center of your chest area, and send your love anywhere you feel called (which may, of course, include to yourself!).
4. Affirm, visualize, and feel the emotions around any goals, wishes and dreams, infusing them with your love, joy, enthusiasm, etc.
5. Send out blessings and prayers (for yourself, others, and the world)
