“I don’t know if I can do this anymore…”
We both knew it could no longer continue the way it was going. She was feeling as though it was impossible to talk to me anymore—that I was emotionally unavailable.
I felt like every time I looked up, she was angry or upset or disappointed in something. We had reached an impasse. I took my blanket and headed to the couch because the tension was just too thick in the bedroom. I could hear her crying as I left. It was the tears of a woman who wanted to give up. We were stuck.
I laid there on the uncomfortable couch and sleep felt much further away than I had originally suspected. As everything began to fall apart around us in the bedroom, the feelings of exhaustion were palpable. I felt as if I could close my eyes and drift right away. By the morning, I walked into the bedroom with a newfound dedication to keeping our relationship alive. The wisdom of Wayne Dyer has never come at me like an instruction book—yet it has always provided solace in the way he sets the reader off on their own meditations.
