“The doctrine of metempsychosis is, above all, neither absurd nor useless… It is not more surprising to be born twice than once; everything in nature is resurrection.” ~ Voltaire
When I was 16, I read my first book about reincarnation.
Coming from a Catholic upbringing, the concept was an incredibly wild idea, one which was quickly shut down by my parents.
Later on in life, after defecting to the Protestant faith, I read Bible quotes that spoke of reincarnation. I had been having many dreams of past lives, and sought the advice of my religious leader at the time.
I received the same response as I had received from my parents: “Forget about it, it doesn’t happen.”
Still, my dreams continued, and a past life regression later, I just knew! After all, one has only to observe nature to see how natural cycles follow birth, life, death and rebirth.
Well, I had always known, but had let others talk me out of believing. A serendipitous meeting of the love of my life left me with no doubts at all.
The fact that I “remember” is something I cannot dispute. Last year, upon entering a quintessentially medieval village in England by foot, having walked 15 miles that day, I set my eyes upon a centuries old stone cross of Celtic influence in the middle of the village square. My internal reaction was instant and violent. Surrounded by the inexpressible beauty of the street, all I could feel was the agony of being sacrificed for my heresy.
My connection to that lifetime continued through the night, where many tears were shed, and although the experience was so vividly painful, it is truly the most beautiful place my feet have ever trod. I once had loved that place and love it still.
My passion for England is profound. I know it as my own although this lifetime I was born in Poland and have lived in Canada for many years. An innate knowledge of wise woman ways that bubbled up from memories was another clue of previous lifetimes. Instead of asking others whether past lives were possible, I began to seek my own truth from within.
Do we reincarnate as a continuing extension of “ourselves” or as quoted below, a different version of the cycle? Having gone through a regression, I can say that slipping through time to meet oneself in another lifetime is an incredible sensation.
“Reincarnation of an ‘individual self’ is only as possible to the extent of believing that your sense of ‘self’—your ego—is real. Two identities who are dwelling within two different physical bodies in the present, or in the past, will be two very distinct personalities. In truth, the ‘I’ is a transitioning, ever-changing phenomenon.
Although our identities and senses of self are ever-changing, there is something that remains the same. There is something within us that is constant and continuous and that is pure awareness. It is this very pure awareness which serves as the experiencer and observer of life, and it is this pure awareness that we can refer to as ‘our’ Soul … This understanding of reincarnation closely resembles that of the Buddhist idea that the continuity continues, but the individual disappears.” ~ Mateo Sol
Here are some common and collectively reoccurring signs of reincarnation. This list was taken from this great article on lonerwolf.com. Be sure to check our their site!
1. Recurring Dreams
The brain is a complicated thing, and dreams may signify many things, but in my experience, dreams take me back to places, situations and cultures that I am very familiar with in my subconscious state as well as in my waking state. Sometimes dreams signify unfinished business and reflect the unconscious mind. I have learned to catalog my dreams and use them as guides into other lifetimes.
2. Out-of-place Memories
As with my memory in the medieval town square, certain memories that do not fit into the present lifetime may seem like the ramblings of a crazy person, but indeed, are indicators of past lives.
Children, especially, being new (again) to the physical plane, remember things that make little sense when expressed, but that they are convinced of knowing.
They are also good at recognizing people they knew in other lifetimes and often will say something like: “When I was here before, I had a dog named Mable, and Uncle Bob was my father.” Or, “When I used to be your mommy…”
Up to the age of three you can usually get a lot of information from a child who will readily share other lifetimes, or even their state of being in the collective pool of souls.
In my case, my youngest daughter was my birth mother who passed when I was six. She had told me in a dream that she would be back, but I had forgotten it until the first time I held my second born and the first words I uttered, were, “Oh, here you are mama.”
3. You Are Intuitive
Some people are born with their Intuition finely tuned. Through intuition we balance the conscious and unconscious mind and tap into our innate knowledge. The more our soul matures the closer we are to returning to Source or Oneness.
We are able to connect with the collective unconscious where universal knowledge exists.
People with especially defined talents draw from this collective unconscious, and others, like Elon Musk, the inventor of the Tesla car for instance, arrive on the physical plane with a type of knowledge that jumps humanity forward by leaps and bounds.
I know intuitively that we are all capable of tele-porting, for example. I remember doing it (ancient lifetime obviously, perhaps Atlantian time period). When I read The Valkyries by Paulo Coelho, I was not surprised by anything he wrote of the supernatural world, my soul simply agreed as I remembered what he was explaining.
If you are drawn to certain ideologies, you may be drawing from either the collective or from a past life where you already knew these things.
4. You’re an Empath
Empaths literally absorb emotions, sensations, and the spiritual presence of those around them. Being an empath is a road to self-discovery and learning how to protect oneself from outside influences. Having said this, empaths often carry soul impressions from previous lifetimes and this burden added to a strong empathy to the world around them can cause a debilitating sensitivity to the present time.
As an empath myself, I can say that learning from my past lives has helped me to understand what my triggers are in this time period.
My aversion to loud, jostling crowds, almost overwhelming fascination with fire, intense longing for anything medieval, and distaste for telephones, (disconnected energies) all relate back to that town square. Meditation helps me to overcome my life long propensity for the need to run and hide.
5. Precognition and Retrocognition
The ability to see into the future or obtain information from the past is a sign of a maturing soul that has experienced many lifetimes. Psychics and Intuitives retrieve information from collective knowledge.
How do I know? I work as an intuitive. I can’t always tell how I know something that seems out of the ordinary. I just do. Experience has taught me not to question my ability, simply to use it for the benefit of others and myself as need arises.
6. Déjà vu
Triggered by sights, sounds, tastes, smells, or experiences, déjà vu helps us to re-visit the past. Deja vu can be an instantaneous jump to a parallel universe or a past life. Sometimes it can be a signal that your soul is in exactly the right place at the right time. Either way, pay attention, your soul is speaking.
7. You’re Older Than Your Age Reflects
How many times have you met an old soul? Or someone you recognize as a new soul? Certain people just arrive with a wise look in their eye. They understand things beyond their age, or are very childlike and every experience is a new discovery.
It’s easy to notice in children. But adults too, will show signs of their soul age, we just have to be observant.
8. You Have a Great Affinity for Certain Cultures/Time Periods/Environments
This is one of the most common signs of a reincarnated soul.
Some places and cultures or time periods resonate so completely that we actually long to return to what we once knew. There is no harm in soaking ourselves in something we love.
Knowing about past lives is helpful if it leads us further on our soul path. Using past lives as an excuse for negative tendencies keeps us from living fully authentic lives.
The past, from the perspective of the present, is an illusion. A good thing to remember when we get stuck there emotionally.
9. Unexplainable Fears or Phobias
Unexplainable is the key word here, although some fears manifest early on and seem to be from the present lifetime. I’m terrified of, and equally fascinated by, fire and water. I can point to my fear being felt long before anything occurred in this lifetime to trigger it.
It’s no use telling someone that their fear is irrational unless you have knowledge of all their past lives. I found hypnosis good for moving past these kinds of embedded fears.
10. You Feel as Though this Earth Is Not Your Home
Do you yearn to go home? Are you constantly moving, looking for that place where your soul fits? Longing for that illusive feeling that you belong?
Perhaps you long for the collective soul home or another lifetime where you felt more comfortable.
I feel this every day. I fit in as best as I can but overall, especially when inundated with modernisms, or negative energies, I deeply ache for the collective. If you feel this way, you are not alone. Many of us feel this way.
11. You Feel Like the Alien in Your Family
Who are these people anyway, you ask yourself as you struggle to connect to the folks you call family.
Hang in there, you’ve chosen each other for a reason, mainly the purpose of soul growth.
This lifetime, like all your others have been opportunity for understanding yourself and others on a deeper level. To live more fully. To love more.
“At the moment of death, when the seed atom in the heart is ruptured, which contains all the experiences of the past life in a panoramic picture, the spirit leaves its physical body, taking with it the finer bodies.” ~ Max Heindel
