Service

Service work is a life saver. I joined Coda in 1998 and by the grace of my higher power a couple of weeks into my program I was asked to fill in for our GSR while she was on vacation. Wow, this was my chance to get involved in my program and understand the principles. Since then, I have held several meeting & intergroup positions from secretary, treasurer, newsletter, fellowship and conference activities as well as others.

Being an introvert/isolator the fellowship activities position really helped me to network and reach out to others. Seventeen years later, when I feel I need a jump start or to refocus, I know it is time for me to do service work. Service work can be done in several different ways from setting up a meeting, reading, welcoming a newcomer, etc. Service work can put you on the fast track to recovery. If you want to get involved, ask your home group what you can do to help, or go to the CoDA.org website and see what they have available. This is a great way to work the Steps and Traditions.
