Remember Your Gifts (KB)

It is easy to lose sight of the great work that God intends for us to accomplish in this lifetime.

There is a story about a great scholar who lived some 150 years ago. He was a financial genius and spent most of his time devising systems that made him large sums of money. One night, he had a dream in which he saw two angels asking each other, “Should we show him all that he was meant to achieve in this lifetime?”

They opened a curtain and there, sitting at the bottom of God’s throne, was a great white angel. The angel turned to the scholar and asked, “Where are all the great spiritual books you were meant to write? Where are all the people you were supposed to reach? What have you been doing with your time?”

In his dream, the scholar saw himself replying, “I have so many things in the works.” Before he could continue, the angel of God said, “I do not want to hear your excuses. Do you think I gave you a mind so you could earn a handful of gold? Do you think that is why I put you here?”

When he awoke, the scholar was deeply moved by the dream and decided to act on its message. He committed himself to fulfilling what the angels had shown him. He went on to write many great spiritual works and to establish a school with many students. The angels appeared in another dream and said, “Blessed are you in this world and the next.”

Today, take a moment to consider how you are using the gifts you've been given for the betterment of yourself, those around you, and the world.
