Two massively bad trip points in the road to
recovery - or for ongoing recovery - is self-honesty and ego. Lack of self-honesty will inflate an already broken ego. An inflated ego will encourage one to self-lie, and self-honesty goes out the window.
Really looking at ourselves from a deeply self-honest perspective -
constantly questioning our motives to determine whether or not they're truly beneficial and/or positive, questioning thought patterns, desires, wants - questioning even the reason we have certain people around us...these types of exercises bring us back down to a point of humility - humbleness - and keeps us aware of what exactly we are doing, or planning on doing - why we are doing whatever it is we're doing - and also helps to initiate a checks
and balances" system whereby we "respond instead of react", and consider our actions and their impact to the rest of the world around us.
"Looking at the man in the mirror..." - for as much as it might be a
frightening thing in some instances - becomes a wonderful means by which to get to know ourselves even better...and instilling in us the ability to grow beyond what we even think we are and who we are.
