The Magnetism of Sean Connery Lives On with these 14 Quotes.

“Some age, others mature.”

Although he said this for a promotional campaign for his favorite Scotch Whiskey brand, Sean Connery embodied this statement.

Sean Connery oft referred to as “the real James Bond” passed away earlier today, at a ripe age of 90, leaving fans all over the world heartbroken.

Beloved by all as Agent 007, few know that he was an active voice for Scottish Independence. Even after he was knighted by the Queen of England, he proudly wore the “Scotland Forever” tattoo on his arm, that he got as a young man. In fact, his knighthood was vetoed twice by angry officials for his support for a referendum that led to the creation of the first Scottish Parliament in 300 years. Such was the magnetism of this dashing Scottsman from the slums of Edinburg.

His beginnings were rather humble. He was born to poor parents—his father earned two pounds a week in a rubber factory and his mother occasionally got work as a cleaning woman. Connery himself worked as a milkman, coffin polisher, and nude model at the Edinburgh Art College, after dropping out of school at the age of 15. But this did not stop him from reaching the heights of fame and adulation from people all across the globe.

To celebrate the life of this timeless legend, here are a few quotes from him:

Love may not make the world go round, but I must admit that it makes the ride worthwhile.”

“My strength as an actor, I think, is that I’ve stayed close to the core of myself.”

“I met my wife through playing golf. She is French and couldn’t speak English and I couldn’t speak French, so there was little chance of us getting involved in any boring conversations—that’s why we got married really quickly.”

“I’m an actor—it’s not brain surgery. If I do my job right, people won’t ask for their money back.”

“As a Scot and as someone with a lifelong love for both Scotland and the arts, I believe the opportunity of independence is too good to miss. Simply put—there is no more creative act than creating a new nation.”

“Laughter kills fear, and without fear, there can be no faith. For without fear of the devil, there is no need for God."

“More than anything else, I’d like to be an old man with a good face, like Hitchcock or Picasso.”

“I take the good with the bad. I can’t love people in slices.”

“Nothing is impossible, only mathematically improbable.”

“Perhaps I’m not a good actor, but I would be even worse at doing anything else.”

“My view is that to get anywhere in life you have to be anti-social, otherwise you’ll end up being devoured. I’ve never been particularly social, anyway, but if I’ve ever been rude, 50 percent of it has usually been provoked by other people’s attitudes.”

“There’s one major difference between James Bond and me. He is able to sort out problems!”

And, my personal favorites:

“I haven’t found anywhere in the world where I want to be all the time. The best of my life is the moving. I look forward to going.”

“I just think the most difficult thing to displace is privilege.”
