18 - The magic, spiritual number. ONE - The ONENESS that is ALL. All there ever was; All there ever is; All there will ever BE! (8) INFINITY - The ETERNAL PRESENT Moment. Eternity; Forever! That which was never born; never dies!
I believe God wants you to know ... ... that all
families have troubles in them. Problem-free families do not exist. Indeed, the challenges in
families are family's greatest gifts. How else could we
be healed of all the false notions we have about what it means
to be human? How else could we learn of real love, and of
true compassion, and of total acceptance? There is, of
course, nothing to learn. There is only for us to remember
what we have always known. And families give
us the greatest opportunity to do that. Therefore, don't
condemn "Uncle Charlie" or "Aunt Matilda". Rather, embrace
them even more fully, and show them what
it means to be fully human... so that they can
find their way back home. |

Having strangers in our homes can be difficult, but we can choose to
treat their energy as an exchange of gifts as well as an exercise in
acceptance. When we have
created a sanctuary in our home, it can be jarring to have the outside world
come in. It is easy to share our space with those we know well, but often
strangers are asked in as household help, contractors, or technicians that
help us make our homes more comfortable. Acquaintances of our spouses or
children also bring something new and different into our space. If we resist
their presence, treating it as an intrusion, we restrict the free flow of
energy and may miss the gift they bring. Instead, we can choose to treat
their energy as an exchange of gifts as well as an exercise in acceptance. Before their
arrival, we can prepare by envisioning light surrounding our bodies and
radiating outward from the core of our homes. We may want to create a calm
and welcoming environment by playing meditation music or lighting incense. We
can remove tension for all involved by putting away our valuables. Then when
they arrive, we claim our boundaries by guiding them through their
visit—asking them to remove their shoes, offering coasters or a place to set
down tool boxes, and indicating by example to speak softly or not use harsh
language. If something still causes stress, we can remember that what begins
as an irritation to an oyster becomes a pearl. After they depart, we can burn
sage and clear our space if we like but not without first finding the pearl. Finally,
remember that we learn about life by relating with others. People may have
been sent to our homes because we ignored some of the universe’s messengers
outside. Our homes need not be a way to keep people out but can be the place
where we are ourselves while accepting and allowing other’s choices. When we
share the joy of our homes, we radiate our light rather than hide it behind
closed doors. The more we do this, the more the outside world can become like
the sanctuary we’ve created inside. |

Although they encompass the real teachings of Buddhism, the problem is that the Buddha didn’t actually say them.
The Buddhist scriptures—also known as sĹ«tra—are the only authentic words and oral teachings of the Buddha.
I feel that reading them preserves the authenticity of Buddhism and the nature of Siddhartha Gautama. Although I always share lots of quotes from renowned Buddhist monks and teachers, the original teachings are by far my favorite.
They’re straight-forward, honest, and liberating. We might find it hard to accept them at first, but if we delve deeper into their meaning, we will find that the Buddha’s sole purpose and wish was to liberate us from suffering.
“But truly, Ananda, it is nothing strange that human beings should die.”
“A mind unruffled by the vagaries of fortune, from sorrow freed, from defilements cleansed, from fear liberated—this is the greatest blessing.”
“Ardently do today what must be done. Who knows? Tomorrow, death comes.”
“The world is afflicted by death and decay. But the wise do not grieve, having realized the nature of the world.”
“Whatever is felt is within suffering.”
“Pleasant feeling is impermanent, conditioned, dependently arisen, bound to decay, to vanish, to fade away, to cease—and so too are painful feeling and neutral feeling. So anyone who, on experiencing a pleasant feeling, thinks: ‘This is my self,’ must, at the cessation of that pleasant feeling, think: ‘My self has gone!'”
“He who, seeking his own happiness, punishes or kills beings who also long for happiness, will not find happiness after his death.”
“Those who cling to perceptions and views wander the world offending people.”
“Conquer anger with love, evil with good, meanness with generosity, and lies with truth.”
“We are what we think. All that we are arises with our thoughts. With our thoughts we make the world.”
“Whatever is subject to origination is all subject to cessation.”
“Whoever doesn’t flare up at someone who’s angry wins a battle hard to win.”
“Any kind of material form whatever, whether past, future, or present, internal or external, gross or subtle, inferior or superior, far or near, all material form should be seen as it actually is with proper wisdom thus: This is not mine, this I am not, this is not my self.”
