Love

"Let there be spaces in your togetherness." Kahlil Gibran

As an alcoholic, I demanded love and was possessive of others. I selfishly treated people as possessions and made them responsible for my own satisfaction and survival. My fear of being alone caused me to blackmail people with my needs and emotions. Today I love people while allowing them to breathe. My program entails healthy detachment. I take responsibility for me and allow others to take responsibility for themselves. I give those I love the space they need. Sometimes, I must love people enough to let them go. I am beginning to understand that to be free, I must give freedom to others.

God, in the spaces of my love is the growth experienced.

On this day of your life

I believe God wants you to know ...

... that everything is perfect Right Here, Right Now.

And Right Here Right Now is all there is.

Forget about the past. It does not exist, except in your

memory. Drop it. And stop worrying about how you're

going to get through tomorrow. Life is going on Right

Here, Right Now -- pay attention to that and

all will be well.

Embrace the present moment with gratefulness and

wonder, and you will turn it into whatever you have

been waiting for.

Your Comfort Zone (OM)

Create a soft place to land in your home a refuge from the stress of the day.

Our day-to-day demands can quickly take their toll on our well-being if we are not vigilant about caring for ourselves as best we can. One way we can ensure that we have an opportunity to relax and recuperate each day is to create a soft place to land when we arrive home. This landing pad, whether it is an entire room or merely a small corner of a larger area, can provide us with a safe and comforting refuge in which we can decompress and recover from the day's stresses. There, we are enveloped in feelings of security that transcend other issues that may be unfolding in our homes. Our landing pads also act as way stations that enable us to shift our attention away from our outer-world concerns and back to our inner-world needs.

To create a soft place to land in your home, begin by scouting potential locations. Or perhaps your entire home is your landing pad in which case you may only need to declutter. Your habits can often provide you with insight into the perfect spot, as there may be an area of your home you gravitate to naturally when you are in need of comfort. Any space in which you find it easy to let go of stress and anxiety can become your landing pad. A basement or attic, spare room, or unused storage area, furnished with items that soothe you, can give you the privacy you need to unwind. If you appreciate the elements, you may find that spending time in a section of your garden or outdoor patio helps you release the day's tensions. Preparing these spaces can be as easy as replacing clutter with a small selection of beautiful objects that put you in a relaxed frame of mind. Remember to consider noise and activity levels while choosing the site of your landing pad. If you know that ordinary human commotion will distract you from your purpose, look for a secluded spot.

The soft place to land that you create should inspire within you the mantra, "I can breathe here. I can relax here. I know I am safe here." When you return to your home after braving worldly rigors, you will feel a subtle yet tranquil shift occur inside of you as you settle in to this most personal of retreats and feel centered once again.

Why Slowing Down is a Life-Transforming, Awakening Paradox.

Isn’t it fascinating to have a bird’s eye view?

How incredible to become aware of the stillness, the flow, and the deeply-rooted rhythm that steadily pulses through all of nature.

I’m currently sitting on a balcony, two stories up, soaking in the fresh air and noticing—noticing the movement of the clouds, the breeze through the trees, and the people walking past going about their lives. Simply allowing the awareness to come.

One thing stands out.

Every time I stop, get out of my head, be present, quit the overthinking for just a moment, and go inward, I come out with more.

I come out with more awareness, I receive inspiration and clarity, or something dawns on me.

I finally get “it.” (Whatever “it” happens to be.) You know that one thing that has been running crazy circles in your overactive mind? Yep. That’s the one.

You see, I have a long-standing, intimate relationship with overthinking. It has permeated every single decision and aspect of my life up until now. It has kept me safe, but it has also kept me stuck. I have been completely closed off from anything that brings me deep joy, any concept of my greater purpose, and any realization of my innate gifts.

So, needless to say, it has been a continual, conscious, and at times, deeply painful effort to allow this concept of slowing down to become a permanent, nonnegotiable.

This brand new going inward always seems to result in having much more to bring to fruition, much more to offer, and much more to give outward. Going inward draws out more depth and understanding, and that can only be a good thing.

It’s a fascinating paradox that many trained in spirituality implement in their daily lives. This idea of becoming still and silent to make massive moves or bold leaps. To go forward fast, we find great benefit in first pausing the continuous momentum. It is then that the breakthroughs come. Letting go of the need to know every single step along the way allows for a little magic to drop in. And who doesn’t want a little (or a lot) more magic?

This is the case in every area of life. How you cope day-to-day. How you relate to those around you. How you conduct your business or work life. How you impact and reach people. How you offer value and show up.

And I have no doubt you would reap huge, noticeable benefits from allowing the still, quiet awareness to come in.

Imagine feeling calmer, clearer, and more capable in any area you can think of, really.

Imagine knowing that you have a much deeper purpose, innate worth, and so many gifts. This is the beauty that is discovered in the “stopping.”

It is life-transforming, eye-opening, and awakening. I highly recommend it.

Freedom

Freedom is the right of every human being. -Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

Spirituality is a choice. Recovery is a choice. Living the life that says Say Yes to Your Spirit is a choice. All the above happens because we make it happen-the power of being human-and it brings freedom. This freedom is also a choice. The poets, who write during times of persecution, tell us that you can throw people in prison, torture them, chain them, separate them from loved ones, but you cannot take away the freedom that lives in their souls. Having this attitude is a choice. It is a choice to believe in the all-encompassing entity called spirituality. It is a choice to dance in God. - Leo Booth

The Death and Rebirth of Self (OM)

Sometimes a part of us must die, before another part can come to life.

Sometimes a part of us must die before another part can come to life. Even though this is a natural and necessary part of our growth, it is often painful or, if we don't realize what's happening, confusing and disorienting. In fact, confusion and disorientation are often the messengers that tell us a shift is taking place within us. These shifts happen throughout the lives of all humans, as we move from infancy to childhood to adolescence and beyond. With each transition from one phase to another, we find ourselves saying goodbye to an old friend, the identity that we formed in order to move through that particular time.

Sometimes we form these identities in relationships or jobs, and when we shift those areas of our life become unsettled. Usually, if we take the time to look into the changing surface of things, we will find that a shift is taking place within us. For example, we may go through one whole chapter of our lives creating a protective shell around ourselves because we need it in order to heal from some early trauma. One day, though, we may find ourselves feeling confined and restless, wanting to move outside the shelter we needed for so long; the new part of ourselves cannot be born within the confines of the shell our old self needed to survive.

We may feel a strange mixture of exhilaration and sadness as we say goodbye to a part of ourselves that is dying and make way for a whole new identity to emerge in its place. We may find inspiration in working with the image of an animal who molts or sheds in order to make way for new skin, fur, or feathers to emerge. For example, keeping a duck feather, or some other symbol of transformation, can remind us that death and rebirth are simply nature's way of evolving. We can surrender to this process, letting go of our past self with great love and gratitude, and welcoming the new with an open mind and heart, ready for our next phase of life.

Thought

If you want to truly understand something, try to change it. -Kurt Lewin

This saying makes you ponder. It is a thought that challenges us to think outside of the box. It forces us into explanation. You cannot really change something without first understanding what it is you want to change. You probably want to change something because you don't agree with it or you think that you have a better solution. And so you really need to understand what it is you want to change. I am an alcoholic.Only after years of trying to change my behavior and attitude concerning alcohol have I eventually come to an understanding of alcoholism: the denial, manipulation, sarcasm, family history, and mood swings. My efforts at change produced a profound understanding.

I cannot change without thinking.

We Can Achieve the Level of Divine Inspiration (MB)

Michael Berg
APRIL 27, 2022

The portion Kedoshim opens with a statement on holiness: “You shall be holy, for I, the Lord your God, am holy,” and the word kedoshim itself means “holy ones.” Clearly, therefore, this is a portion that shares secrets about holiness, and what it means.

Rav Chaim Vital wrote a book called Shaarei Kedusha, Gates of Holiness, where he says that every person can, and is meant to, merit Ruach HaKodesh, divine inspiration. Having Ruach HaKodesh means to be constantly and completely connected to the Light of the Creator. So, how do we do that? The portion Kedoshim makes it clear we do so by becoming holy. But before we can even try to understand what being holy means and then take the steps to do it, we have to know it’s possible to achieve.

"Having Divine Inspiration means to be constantly and completely connected to the Light of the Creator."

There is something unique about the reading and Shabbat of Kedoshim. Very often throughout the Torah it says the Creator tells Moses to tell the Israelites something; however, this is one of the few times when the Creator calls everybody together to have Moses give them a message. The Creator wanted everyone gathered together to hear that every single one of us can merit Ruach HaKodesh, a complete and total connection to the Light. And in order to come to that place, we first have to know that we have that capacity and ability. Unfortunately, what happens is that the Negative Side tells us we can’t go very high spiritually, that there’s a limit, so we believe it and do not work towards achieving that level.

But the portion Kedoshim teaches us that every single one of us can deepen that connection, and as the Ohr HaChaim, the great Kabbalist Rav Chaim ben Attar explains, it’s a continual life-long process. We have to know and never forget that no matter where we are right now in our spiritual work, every single one of us can and is meant to get to that level of Ruach HaKodesh, divine inspiration. We need to know that even if it’s not tomorrow, or next year, achieving this level is in our future. Knowing this affects how we allow ourselves to act, and how to direct our lives.

On Shabbat Kedoshim, we can begin to really have clarity about the fact that it is possible for every single one of us to achieve the level of Ruach HaKodesh.  Hopefully, this understanding will help us change the way we direct our lives, because when we don’t believe that we have the capacity for divine inspiration, we allow ourselves to act in ways that keep us from getting there.
