11 Rumi Quotes to Remember on the Days we Feel Sad. {Bonus: 3 Verses}

I love Rumi and all his work that I have come across.

There is profound wisdom hidden in every word, quote, and verse he ever wrote.

For every phase of life, there is a gem he always offers that eventually becomes our guiding light and gives us solace in that moment.

On the days when I need to remind myself that I am enough—just the way I am—there is one verse that I often end up going back to. It’s from the book Rumi: Soul Fury by Coleman Barks.

“I say, How are you?
Do you feel happy or sad?
You say, Does anyone ever ask
the moon how it is? Or how it came to be the moon?
No. It is just here, not-here,
luminous, darkened, circular,
crescent, always wholly itself.”

And I smile to myself and silently move to another one:

“You are an inspired piece of writing,
a mirror reflecting the ultimate beauty.
Nothing in this world is outside of you.
When you desire something, anything,
look in yourself.
You are what you long for.”

And there are many other wonderful quotes and verses that speak to me when I feel down; I’m sure some of them will speak to you as well.

Here are 11 quotes by Rumi that I have always held close to my heart:

1. “Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love. It will not lead you astray.”

2. “There is a voice that doesn’t use words. Listen.”

3. “Life is a balance between holding on and letting go.”

4. “Don’t grieve. Anything you lose comes round in another form.”

5. “Your heart knows the way. Run in that direction.”

6. “My soul is from elsewhere, I’m sure of that, and I intend to end up there.”

7. “If light is in your heart, you will find your way home.”

8. “Don’t be satisfied with stories. How things have gone with others. Unfold your own myth.”

9. “The universe is not outside of you. Look inside yourself; everything that you want, you already are.”

10. “The lamps are different, but the light is the same.”

11. “Don’t get lost in your pain, know that one day your pain will become your cure.”

Some days might become heavier, and some nights might feel darker than usual. But when I read Rumi’s work, I come back home to myself.

As he said,

“When you search for the home
of the soul, you become the soul.
Wanting a taste of the bread,
you become the oven.
Understand this much: whatever you love and look for, you are.”

They all speak volumes to me. Which one speaks to you?
