We asked our community on Instagram to name a book everyone on the planet should read—and here are our five winners.

Our community did not disappoint—thanks to everyone who shared their recommendations with us. I picked five of the most-mentioned books from your comments.

Of course, there were more than just five books named, and I invite you to check out all the answers in case I forgot to mention your favorite.

The good news is that we already have articles on Elephant Journal on these books. So before buying and getting started, I invite you to get to know the content of these gems—and decide for yourself which one to read first.

Here are our five winners:

1. The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom by Miguel Ruiz.

How can we escape endless arguments on the internet? How do we stop getting upset with others and ourselves? Miguel Ruiz offers help and invites the reader to rethink the way we treat each other.

Before buying the book, I highly recommend this article as an introduction to the topic.

2. Siddharta by Herman Hesse.

Seeing one of my personal favorites making the top five filled me with joy. This book inspired me as a teenager to dive into the wisdom of Buddhism. I feel this book is the perfect start for anyone who wants to explore the ancient philosophies of Buddhism.

3. The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.

If you are struggling with loneliness and seek connection with others, this is a must-read. This book explores the meaning of friendship and love and offers a new perspective on how to satisfy both of these desires.

Before getting your copy, make sure to read this article.

4. Women who Run with the Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estés.

How can we deal with strong emotions and honor the wilderness of our being? This book takes a closer look at the archetype of the wild woman and offers an empowering perspective to the reader. It was mainly named by our female readers, but it’s definitely also worth a read for all mindful gentlemen out there.

5. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson.

Is it possible to take things too seriously? There is no doubt that caring is a good thing, but what if it takes away our peace of mind? Mark Manson offers a refreshing perspective on how to find the balance between overthinking our lives and not doing anything at all.

This article offers 14 inspirational quotes from the book that will most probably make you want to read it.

I hope you enjoy reading one (or maybe all) of these books. And if you don’t find the time for that, reading our five articles on these books is also a good start to get inspired.

And just in case I missed one, please help me out. Which book do you recommend? Let us know in the comments.
