Finding Liberation in the Brokenness: Why we Need to Stop Running Away from our Wounds.

Are there any old bruises on your body or scars that have dried?

I’m sure there might be. Do you remember how painful they were when you first got them?

What about today?

Perhaps some aren’t visible now, and others are still there but don’t hurt at all.

All wounds are the same, aren’t they?

They hurt the moment we get them.

Then depending on how deep the wound is or how painful it is, we decide what we need to do in order to heal it.

After some time, the wound disappears, and even if it stays, it doesn’t hurt that much.

In both cases, it becomes a part of us. It becomes us, but in a new way.

Healing is nothing more and nothing less than becoming—one with our own selves.

Healing is an upward process that’s filled with tremendous pain, exhaustion, and rewards. Interestingly, while the direction of healing is upward, it’s not linear at all.

To heal, we must acknowledge and accept that there is something within us that is crying out loud for help. It requires us to first come face to face with all our pain that we have buried deep within us.

It needs us to reach into every dark corner, crevice of our wounded soul, and bring out that hurt, pain, anger, hopelessness, despair, and those voices that constantly try to pull us down.

It forces us to sit with each one of them, talk to them, understand them, and then let them go.

And what happens when we let them go?

It pains even more. But this is a liberating pain. The one that sets us free. The kind of pain that heals, transforms, and lets us become.

Healing enables us to create space within us for our own selves. It enables us to invite the parts of us that we have been long pushing away, suppressing, denying, and disowning—to come and form a new whole so that we can become the kind of person we were always meant to be.

And that’s why it’s transformational. Our wounds never remain the same. They don’t hurt as much or don’t hurt at all. Some attain their liberation and set us free. What remains is our soul—wild and free.

“The process of healing does not end when the wounds are no longer visible. It ends when the wound no longer aches.” ~ Anonymous

The way it was always meant to be. Free to explore, create, make mistakes, learn, grow, evolve, and become.

Is it easy? No.

It requires courage and lots of it.

It requires patience.

It needs strength.

And we all can heal, only if we allow ourselves to.

But why should we? Why should we put ourselves through this discomfort of unearthing what we have so carefully buried within? Why should we look at the wounds that remind us of more pain?

Because it’s our own soul waiting to be whole with us, standing on the other side.

Because the pain and the anguish that we are busy ignoring and suppressing are showing up in our lives and creating havoc that will continue until we either learn to live with the ever-increasing damage or we decide to let it go.

After all, the pain that keeps coming up also knows that it doesn’t belong within us. So it knocks and knocks until we finally open the door and see it.

We have parts of us that are broken and damaged in their own ways, and they hurt.

We all carry our own pains with us, and sometimes, some pains become too much to bear.

Sometimes, the burden creates many wounds, which, if not healed, could create even more.

Perhaps, if this brokenness or damage don’t exist, we would never grow. We would all be the same.

Healing allows us to use our pain as an agent of transformation. It tells us to stop running away from our wounds, covering them up, or denying their existence. It allows us to treat our wounded parts as humans that need tender, loving care. The kind of care that they have always deserved but never got. Healing allows us to see our pain as valid and important and enables us to set it free.

As Rumi says,

“The wound is the place where the light enters you.”

Once we release the pain, we allow a new light to enter and transform the wound. The one that makes it a part of us and we become one with our self again.

“Healing takes courage and we all have it, even if we have to dig a little to find it.” ~ Tori Almos

It’s a journey filled with twists and turns, ups and downs.

Yet, in the end, when we reach our destination—our own true self—every tear, every anguish, every fight becomes worth it.

And that’s why healing is becoming.

Becoming who we are, who we’re meant to be.

“Maybe the journey isn’t so much about becoming anything. Maybe it’s about unbecoming everything that isn’t really you, so you can be who you were meant to be in the first place.” ~ Anonymous
