Finding Confidence in Creativity: a Yogic Perspective.

I recently saw a post on social media from the creative and artistic actor, Dan Levy. He spoke about how the world only sees the end product of creative projects.

It is so true. We do not see all the hard work, dedication, or endless hours that it takes to come up with the idea, get the content, make it special, and get it out into the world. I was so moved by this as a creative myself, so I thought I would continue this conversation from a Yogi’s perspective.

Putting yourself out into the world creatively can feel vulnerable. Whether you’re sharing your art, writing, voice, or ideas, the fear of judgment or self-doubt can creep in. However, by incorporating yogic practices into your daily life, you can cultivate confidence, clear energetic blocks, and align with your highest creative potential. These practices will help you step forward boldly, knowing that your voice and creative essence truly matter.

Energetic Clearing and Grounding

Before you sit down to create, take a moment to clear your space and prepare your mind. Our external environment reflects our internal state, and when we intentionally clear stagnant energy, we allow inspiration to flow freely. Burning sage or palo santo is a simple yet powerful way to cleanse your space, inviting clarity and focus. As the fragrant smoke swirls around you, visualize any self-doubt or creative blockages dissolving. Feel yourself rooted in the present moment, fully connected to your inner wisdom.

After clearing your space, settle into a short grounding meditation. Close your eyes and take slow, deep breaths, imagining roots extending from your body deep into the earth. With every inhale, draw in stability and strength; with every exhale, release any fear or hesitation. You are connected. You are safe. You are capable of creating from a place of authenticity and power.

Affirmations and Mantra Practice

The words we speak to ourselves shape the way we show up in the world. If your inner dialogue is filled with doubt—questioning whether your work is good enough or if others will approve—then your creative expression will carry that hesitation. Instead, begin each creative session with words of affirmation. Remind yourself: I am a vessel of creative energy. My voice is powerful and worthy of being heard. I share from my heart with confidence and ease.

You can also integrate a Sanskrit mantra to deepen your connection to your inner truth. Chanting “So Hum” (meaning “I am that”) is a powerful way to remind yourself that you are a divine being, inherently worthy of expression. Repeating this mantra, either aloud or internally, aligns you with the greater creative force of the universe. Your voice matters—not because of validation from others, but because your unique expression is a vital thread in the tapestry of the world.

Visualization: Embodying Your Highest Self

Before you begin creating, take a moment to visualize yourself as your most confident, empowered self. Close your eyes and imagine the version of you who creates fearlessly, without hesitation or concern for judgment. See yourself painting, writing, speaking, or dancing with total freedom, fully immersed in the joy of creation. Feel the warmth of pride and fulfillment radiating through your body as you share your work with the world.

This visualization is more than just a daydream—it is a way of training your mind to embody confidence. Your nervous system doesn’t distinguish between real and imagined experiences, which means that by repeatedly seeing yourself succeed, you are building new neural pathways that make confidence your default state. You are stepping into the truth of who you already are: a creative force, unapologetically sharing your light with the world.

Energetic Release: Moving Through Fear and Doubt

Self-doubt can be stored in the body, creating tension that blocks creative flow. If you ever feel stuck or hesitant, try a short energetic release practice before you create. Move your body—shake out your hands, bounce on your feet, or take a few deep, cleansing breaths. You might even try breathwork, inhaling deeply for four counts, holding for four counts, and exhaling for six counts to release any lingering tension.

After shaking off resistance, place your hands over your heart and take a deep breath. Remind yourself: I am enough. I am worthy of expressing myself. My creativity is valuable. With each breath, feel your inner critic quieting, replaced by a sense of openness and possibility. When you free your body from tension, you free your creative spirit as well.

Tapping into Your Power: Daily Rituals for Strength

Confidence isn’t built overnight—it’s cultivated through consistent, intentional practices that reinforce your self-worth. Establish a daily ritual that reminds you of your inner power. Maybe it’s writing in a journal each morning, listing three things that make your voice unique. Perhaps it’s working with your Solar Plexus chakra, the energetic center of personal power, by breathing deeply into your belly or wearing the color yellow as a reminder of your strength.

Most importantly, release attachment to the opinions of others. When you create from a place of joy and self-expression rather than seeking approval, your work becomes magnetic. Not everyone will resonate with what you create, and that’s okay. Your purpose isn’t to please everyone—it’s to share your truth, knowing that those who are meant to receive it will be drawn to it.

By weaving these yogic practices into your routine, you affirm that your creative voice matters. You step into alignment with your highest self, sharing your gifts with courage and authenticity.

The world needs what only you can offer—so step forward, trust yourself, and let your light shine.
