Humans are simple beings, on some level. No one wants to be told their intrinsically bad, second place, last place, shunted aside.
In liberal spheres, white young men are told they’re bad, and privileged (which they generally are, in some ways) and no sympathy is offered.
In conservative spheres, white young men are vaunted, welcomed, listened to, coddled, held up, told they’re powerful and manly and heroes.
Where do you think young white men are going? Even as feminists, as those who prize equity and bending the arc of history toward justice, we want our boys to be taught they are fundamentally good, not bad; and we want to teach them to be kind and vulnerable in their openness, not closed and vulnerable in their lack of emotional intelligence.
