Unpopular opinion: Most stand-up comedy…isn’t funny. This 5-minute routine by Trevor Noah? Funny.

Okay. I have a “confession” to make:

I have never really enjoyed much stand-up comedy. All those specials on Netflix? I watch them stony-faced, or rather I don’t watch them. Watching the crowds in the shows, it feels like fake laughter, they’re just laughing because they’re there and they’re supposed to laugh and have a good time. That’s fine.

This is not to say that I don’t enjoy comedy, or laughing! I do, both, very much! Any time! But stand-up. Most of it is…weirdly unfunny.

So, watching this, laughing for 5 minutes straight, I grew an admiration for Trevor that I hadn’t had previously. Sure, I respected him and his integrity on the Daily Show over the years. Good guy. But this right here is funny. Laugh out loud funny. Whether you’re the target of his humor or laughing at the target, it’s…actually funny. Hope you enjoy!
