Stubborn “Meno Belly” (OM)

Show love to your body, as it has carried you through every season of life, and will carry you through so many more.

Gather any group of midlife women together, and chances are the conversation will eventually turn to one familiar frustration: stubborn weight gain around the midsection, or what’s often called “meno belly.” And for many of us, it’s not just about the weight. There’s the uncomfortable bloating, water retention, sluggish digestion, and that feeling of fullness or tightness.

It’s only human to feel discouraged and confused — especially if you’ve been caring for yourself the same way you always have. Menopause brings hormonal changes that can affect everything from where you store fat to how well you sleep and manage stress. But here’s something worth remembering: Your body isn’t working against you. It’s moving through a natural transition, one that invites a different kind of support and understanding.

In many ways, this can also be a beautiful time to become more consciously aware of what you need and want for yourself now — and that may look very different than it did 10 or 20 years ago. Perhaps you’re feeling inspired to build strength, boost your metabolism, and find new ways to rejuvenate your energy. Or maybe you want to slow down, lower your cortisol levels, and find comfort in restorative movement. Whatever resonates for you, honor it. Let it become a way of nourishing the body that has carried you through every season of life, and will carry you through so many more.
