Emotional Multi-Tasking, Active Silence, & Sound Healing
“America, the Still So Beautiful” is pleading for us to beam vast energy fields of glistening light, love, and kindness over her.
She is desperate. Sobbing. Exhausted. Frightened. Shaking. Confused.
Sometimes, in my saddest moments, it’s an emotional stretch to visualize the pendulum of hatred, vengeance, and destruction weakening.
Other times, I can successfully call back to my soul a familiar spark of optimism and hope and know with confidence that the pendulum will soon swing towards the healing power of love.
I find myself often vacillating between the two polarizing forces and that’s when I turn to deep listening. I listen for the wisdom whispers of the universe to guide me…
“Whatever you do, don’t give up. Do your best to spread goodness, peace, light, and love. Do your best to keep your spirit of hope ignited.”
How about you, dear friend? How are you doing?
You and I are in the thick of intense “emotional multi-tasking.” There are times when we can keep up with the latest news headlines despite the heartbreak, and there are other times when we can’t take it anymore and we step away.
In my case, I’ve made the decision to face both the darkness and the light as much as possible.
It’s. All. So. Hard.
Even as a writer, I can’t seem to find the exact words to adequately describe my feelings about this sadistic upheaval. That’s when I turn to a tool called “sound healing” as my main source of therapy.
Yes, I still write my feelings and thoughts down in my journal, use my active imagination to visualize a world of love and peace, repeat my favorite positive affirmations, take walks in nature, dance, sing, breathe, and stay in the joy of the present moment.
But when those healing tools don’t work, and even when they do, I always return to the power of sound healing.
I scream, groan, and make guttural sounds that come from deep inside me, and when I’m done, it feels as if I’ve released the toxicity that swirls around in my cells.
If you’re feeling pent up and can’t find the words to describe what you are going through, try turning to any primitive sounds that come out of you from your second chakra. It’s the area just below your belly button.
The second chakra is a powerful energy center and a symbol of birth, rebirthing yourself, creativity, passion, emotions, vulnerability, and raw truth.
I also turn to anything that ignites my joy. I’ve heard that joy is a form of resistance, so over the summer I decided to invite more of it into my life.
At eighty-years-old, I returned to the career that gave me abundant joy.
Once again, I’m teaching music, movement, imagination, love, and friendship to little ones. What can I say? It’s pure deLIGHT.
Just for those joyful and active hours, I forget everything but the children, music, and instilling important values. I bask in the present moment and in the innocence, love, and purity of children.
It’s a mental and emotional vacation, and I hope you can seek that kind of vacation, too.
I’m also doing my best to keep myself together by breathing in big and small moments of perfect peace—like listening to the songs of the birds or hugging a tree—and I remind myself to stay in the present, breathe deeply, engage in meaningful conversations with strangers, and pray for Glinda the Good Witch from the “Wizard of Oz” to fly down and save us.
{Author’s Note: In all seriousness, Glinda, or no Glinda, we are on our own and we are the love, peace, and freedom we’ve been waiting for.}
For added sanity and stability, I fill my days with a new kind of silence that’s different from the silence I’ve utilized in the past.
I’m continuing to breathe deeply and slowly. That part is consistent. As for the emptying of thoughts—no. Quite the opposite. I invite all my thoughts to dance with both darkness and light. That’s how this silence is different from the other kinds.
It’s anything but passive and it’s not about letting go.
I’m not pushing away the darkness. I’m accepting it, and at the same time, I’m more determined than ever to be the healing power of love.
This kind of “active silence” is a catalyst for passion and vitality to surge powerfully within each of us and outward.
For me, it’s the only way that I can stay centered, grounded, and call upon the bursting forth of my new-found courage, strength, and determination.
I know I’m not alone in holding a liminal space of hope for America and for the world.
With my third eye intuitive sensing, I am now continually visualizing masses of people in America and abroad suspending their exhaustion and jolting themselves into making enthusiastic non-violent noise on behalf of human rights.
In the coming weeks, I predict that it will be hard to recognize the brave new person we’ve become. Soon, we will be transcending our fears and rising up on behalf of “freedom and justice” for all.
We will be rising up on behalf of all our global brothers and sisters.
Stand in your passionate belief that we are so much better than the darkness we’ve allowed.
Our options are clear. We can give up, succumb, sublimate ourselves, and be part of the energy of the complicit and silent ones, or we can give ourselves agency, allow our voices to ring, and be the love and peace we want in the world.
Remember, you are not alone in this quagmire. Join with other like-minded humans. Your voice matters, your choices matter, and your vote matters. The choice is in our hands.
“We the People” have the power to change this negative tide into one heartbeat of love.
Our personal reasons for stepping into activism may be different for each of us, but the cause is the same.
Human rights. Peace. Kindness. Unconditional Love.
This isn’t the time to accuse others, judge, or feel angry at those who were on the “other side.” They are feeling pain and are ready to rise, too.
How many lessons have we had to relearn in our lives? This is no different. It’s time to accept, forgive, understand, and bond together as one unified global citizen on our one planet of love.
Miracles do happen, and we all have the power to be our own Glinda the Good Witch from the “Wizard of Oz.”
>> Right now, there is a grieving person gathering strength.
>> Right now, there is a frightened person finding courage.
>> Right now, there is a person who was told to be silent in childhood who is speaking out, and as they speak out, they are healing themselves and their inner child wounds.
>> Right now, there is someone who has being unjustly punished for acting or looking different.
>> Right now, there is a nation waking up.
Before it’s too late, invite the highest and purest version of yourself to leap out of your comfort zone, and if you need reminders as to the “why” behind your activism, remember all the vulnerable and innocent children and the legacy we are leaving behind.
Remember the cruelty and what you have seen and/or experienced in your lifetime, and then, as you feel that pain, gather your courage and join with others to create a transformational story of love.
Do it on behalf of humanity. Do it on behalf of “America, the Still So Beautiful.” The time is now.
