A typical comment ^
First of all…yay! If it’s a win for animals and humans alike, we’ll take it. Gladly, and gratefully.
But if we actually care about animals, we have to look at the full picture in terms of this administration, or any administration, and their actions for or against animals.
Today, a vegan group on Facebook that I belong to and appreciate is celebrating something wonderful: the Trump Administration has announced less animal testing in labs.
That said, the comments are another matter altogether: folks are claiming Trump as a protector and lover of animals because he and RFK Jr. and his Admin are cutting animal testing.

I’m sure there’s more to that story…it’s inspired by DOGE/cutting funding, anti-science, anti-vaxx…but I’m happy to support any good thing that ever happens via any administration. Particularly with this administration, good news is few and far between.
The comments are full of Trump fans celebrating their wonderful, kind, compassionate, animal-loving President and his wisdom.
Give me a break: his son is a trophy hunter, he’s just repealed protections for endangered whales in the Gulf of Mexico, and—well, read on, fans.
Let’s not be suckers, or willing enablers. If we truly care about animal welfare, we need to read up on facts. So here’s a list of animal actions by Dear Donald the Animal Lover:
It took me a few minutes to compile this:
Always happy to support anything good Trump or anyone does. That said, he’s hardly a friend to the animals. Rather the opposite.
Anyone saying otherwise is a cult member and not a true friend to animals or their welfare:
Meanwhile Trump Admin is harassing, rounding up horses via helicopter etc, and putting them in pens. They’re speeding up slaughterhouses, making them even more inhumane and unsafe and downright torturous. Trump, Mr. Big Mac, has never cared about ethics or kindness or animals.
For those parroting “TDS,” “TDS,” in the comments, he’s the most-self obsessed human in history, or among the worst, and those in his cult despite his almost never doing anything helpful, legal, and/or ethical are the true TDSers, of course.
“On the other hand, we’ve also seen some shocking anti-animal actions, including a conspicuous decline in the enforcement of the Animal Welfare Act and the Horse Protection Act, a continued lack of transparency over recorded violations of these laws, and the dismantling of the Endangered Species Act, the bedrock U.S. law protecting imperiled species across the globe…
Among the damaging actions taken by the administration over [just] the past year:
- The U.S. Department of Agriculture cut back drastically on the number of Animal Welfare Act citations and enforcement actions—actions that could negatively impact animals trapped in enterprises like puppy mills and roadside zoos.
- The USDA finalized a federal rule to do away with slaughter speed limits at pig slaughter facilities, creating an animal welfare, worker and food safety nightmare.
- The Fish and Wildlife Service and National Marine Fisheries Service finalized rules substantially weakening Endangered Species Act regulations. One of these rules creates additional roadblocks to securing comprehensive protections for threatened species and makes it easier to delist species from the ESA.
- The Fish and Wildlife Service announced its plan to issue a rule to remove ESA protections for gray wolves.
- The Fish and Wildlife Service issued its third critically endangered black rhino trophy import permit since 2017, to a hunter who paid $400,000 to kill the animal in Namibia.
- The National Institutes of Health announced that it will not send chimpanzees, now held at the Alamogordo primate laboratory in New Mexico, to retirement at the federal sanctuary Chimp Haven, despite an express Congressional directive.”
“However, these big plans overlook the largest populations of animals cared for by humans in the United States. The “new era” of welfare applies only to companion animals and animals used in testing and research. But what about cows, pigs, chickens and other animals farmed for food? These animals are not included, and when Sentient reached out to the FDA and USDA to ask why, we received no response.”
Finally, the biggy: exacerbating climate crisis is and will harm and kill millions if not billions of animals and sentient beings on this wonderful, fragile planet.
