This week on our long-running “Walk the Talk Show” podcast and video series, Waylon reflects on the life and loss of Dolly Parton, who peacefully passed away on August 25, 2026 at the age of 80. She left behind a legacy of untarnished generosity, depth, humor, bravery, gumption, and compassion. She truly lived a life #ofbenefit.

“The thing is, she cared. She cared about people. She wasn’t coming from a partisan point of view. I do appreciate that, and I do agree with the gentleman [at the table next to me] on that note.

But…it’s not that she cared about politics, she cared about people. And if you care about people, then you gotta be involved in politics. You have no choice. None of us do.

Politics influences what food we eat—whether it’s safe or not. It influences whether there’s smoke or toxic stuff in our air or water.

So, I just wanna say:

 Dolly, thank you.

And what we all need to do is appreciate who she was—all of who she was—if we want to give a tribute to her. She was someone who unified Americans in this time when division and hate and lies and aggression has been made cool again by our President and those who rabidly follow his wild incompetency, lack of moral virtue, lack of caring, his greed, his avarice, his dishonesty.

But Dolly stood apart from all that and said, ‘I care about you. I care about others. Let’s have a little fun. Let’s feel our hearts. Let’s be sad. Let’s be joyful. Let’s be a community. Let’s learn. Let’s pull ourselves up together as a community and individuals both.’
