Each one of us believes that what we are and what we accomplish, we are and we accomplish because of our own selves. We think: “I am a lawyer, a doctor, a secretary, an accountant. I am a mother, a brother, a cousin, a sister. I wrote a book, saved a dying person, was on TV, made a million dollars. All of these things that I am and accomplish are all of my own doing.” No, they’re not. But if you allow the energy—that essence, that quality of the Light that is part of you—to come through, then you will understand that the reason you are what you are and you achieve what you achieve is because you were chosen, for whatever reason, to be a vehicle for that energy. The Creator put you here in this world, through your soul, to do a particular job. You weren’t put here because you are your job, but rather to see what you are going to do in that position. How we respond to and act in a given situation is our choice. However, where we are right now in terms of our role in this world was never really our choice. Consider a child who comes into this world: He is put in an environment with a family that will allow him to grow in a way that he will be able to do his tikkun, his correction. The same applies to any position we acquire in life; we have been put in whatever situation to do and complete our tikkun. What this means is that when we do something in our life and become really successful, and we congratulate ourselves with comments like: “Wow, I am so smart. You know, I got that deal. I understood it. How great I am!”, we shouldn’t get caught up patting ourselves on the back. We should stop and understand that we are great because we were supposed to be in that situation, because the Creator instilled within us the ability to do what we have done. The question then becomes: What are we going to do with “our” success? Who are we going to become now? Are we going to be the same person we were before success? Or are we going to become different? Will we become a better person or a worse one? Most people do become someone else, either for better or, unfortunately, for worse. But without the Light of the Creator, we could never be who we are or do what we do. |
