We have a Lot to Thank Trump & MAGA for as we Begin 202

6.

If you want to reset your faith in hope, decency, and equality, in a world that seems to have lost its way, then make sure you listen to Zohran Mamdami’s inaugural speech as the new Mayor of New York City.

2025 was a very special year.

Yes, it was tough, crazy, cruel, and dangerously mad. But it was a year that should be written up in the annals of history about just how special and significant it was.

Not that I would give Trump and MAGA any credit for anything good, but strangely, if it were not for them, if it were not for all of their banal ugliness, if it were not for all of their vile cruelty and greed, we wouldn’t have this moment of the profound loss, grief, and regret most Americans are feeling right now.

And that’s why 2025 is so special.

Oddly, the world of MAGA and Trump has woken us up to what we fear we are losing and long for—freedom, decency, kindness, fairness, and prosperity for all. We’ve all had a painful lesson in what we miss and just how precious a thing it is to lose.

Realistically, we know that Mamdami will not be able to achieve all that he wants to change. And the cynical critics will go out of their way to let us know of his failures. But to have a leader who wants to rule for everyone and who demands a foundation of integrity, kindness, and equality reminds us of the beautiful idea of America. He said: “We may not always succeed. But never will we be accused of lacking the courage to try.”

So thank you, MAGA. Thank you, Trump, for reminding us about what is right and true. Thank you for waking us up from our lazy, comfortable slumber.

Thank you for the jolt that we all needed.
