Author’s Note: These two poems emerged after a deep meditative journey. The first is a descent into the raw unraveling of identity; the second, a humorous and tender reboot. Together, they map a passage through surrender, dissolution, and reintegration.
Part I: The Leap
She kneels at the abyss—
the chasm of the Great Unknown.
Wind whipping violently through her hair,
longing to leap,
longing for freedom,
pulling against the chains
that chafe and burn,
that tether her to the known.
Fear
Shame
Anger
Impatience
Frustration
Despair
Hopelessness
A thousand voices—
a thousand tethers—
yelling in her head,
trampling through her body,
telling her:
Who she is.
Who she was.
Who she should be.
What she should do.
What she should say,
and how she should say it.
How she should feel,
how she should think,
what she should believe—
who she should believe.
A thousand voices.
A thousand chains.
Incessant whispers
climbing over each other,
interrupting each other,
pushing and shoving,
demanding to be heard:
That she is not enough.
That she’s broken.
That she’ll never heal.
That she’s wrong.
That she’s bad.
That she’s a burden,
a bother,
best tucked away
into a hidden corner
where she won’t be
in anyone’s way.
That it’s her job:
to agree,
to acquiesce,
to make people happy.
“Please,”
she hoarsely prayed,
“Please—
I want to be free.
I want to release these chains
of suppression.
To express myself how I choose.
To think how I choose.
To feel how I choose.
To believe what I choose.
I want to be free—
free from the pain
of these chains.”
She leaps
into the vastness—
the abyss
of the Great Unknown.
The tethers,
the chains,
dissolve
in an explosion—
scalding heat—
then—
Nothingness.
And everything.
The Great Unknown.
The place of no name,
of no place.
The place where time stands still,
self dissolving into Self,
past, future, present collide
in one unfolding moment—
an infinite possibility
of moments
extending in all directions
and no direction at all.
A place—
the place—
of magic and miracles,
of meeting God
and realizing
She was there
all along.
She was you,
and me.
She was the chains—
and the freedom.
She is all—
the infinite unfoldment
of the Great Unknown.
Each moment,
a Divine mystery.

Part II: The Reset
Hold still a moment please
while we finish the scan.
We can see your system is running slowly.
Your memory and cache are almost full,
and you have several viruses running.
Oh boy.
You might be experiencing symptoms such as:
– Ruminating thoughts
– Anxiety, panic, and fear
– Sadness, despair, and hopelessness
– Pervasive feelings of shame and not being good enough

Okay yes, we’ve got it.
We’ll do a factory reset.
A very advanced factory reset, mind you.
Your core self—your soul—
the essence and very best of your personality—
will stay the same.
Your memories will stay intact.
So will your gifts, abilities, and dreams.
This reset will clear your system
of all viruses and old cache
you no longer need.
It will refresh your memory,
energize your being,
and optimize you
to be your full potential:
a radiant, magical, loving light-being.
Sound good?
Great.
Initiating factory reset now.
Please don’t worry—
you’re safe and in the very best of hands.
Note:
You may temporarily lose your sense of self.
You may feel like you’re being yanked backward in time
and/or that time is standing still.
You may also not remember the reset
the way you normally remember things.
This is all perfectly normal
and a sign that the factory reset worked.
You might feel like waking from a dream
that you know was incredible
but can’t quite recall.
There now—
all done.
You may feel some shaking,
or spontaneous laughter or crying,
as you come to.
Those are all signs of integration.
You are safe.
We’re with you.
We’ve also installed a healing shield
to nourish and protect
your new neural pathways.
Please be extra gentle with yourself
the next 24 to 48 hours.
Mind the energies you bring in—
your thoughts, your feelings.
Water and fertilize your brain
with self-love,
self-compassion,
and self-acceptance
to reinforce the new programming
of self-assurance
and authenticity.
