The darkness outside beckons us deeper inward.

The call to return home to a stillness within the self. A stillness of peace in our spirit and inner light we have been cultivating for eons. A light within the fortress of self that diminished during the darkness and desolation of trauma and strife. A light we inherently were born with, but not shown how to deeply attune to and protect, to honor, to hold, to remember as our truth and our inner guide. A light we had to forge through fire, flame, and decay of former self becoming new again. To reignite the flame of truth and the divine again within our own hearts, which never truly went out or left us, just became stifled and muted as layers of illusion, pain, and suffering diluted our connection to it.

The long, arduous at times, winter months of darkness reflect the inner hero/heroine’s quest to resurrect the light within our hearths and hearts, as we refocus on the light even, and especially, when darkness within and outside of us pervades.

The slowing down of the winter season, coupled with the busyness of the holiday season and the launch of a new calendar year, gives us all emotional and energetic whiplash, as we try to maintain balance, to honor the societal, cultural, and familial expectations, as well as our spirit’s wisdom more in accordance with the nature rhythms and wisdom of stillness and rest.

We are closing out yet another calendar year, and this time, with a three supermoon bang. And yet, 2026 begins with yet another powerful and potent full supermoon. The year begins with a full supermoon in the watery, emotional, and sensitive sign of Cancer on January 3 at 5:02 a.m. EST and at 13 degrees of the cardinal water sign.

The year 2026, a numerological one year, a time of rebirth, new beginnings, and zero point potential. Energetically in 2025, a number nine year and ending of a cycle, we have already closed out many endings and cut ties with outdated energies. But as with all things in flux and fluid, this new year will continue to unveil and reveal to us anything we have stubbornly held onto, hoping it could still come with us into the new.

The energetic weight and karmic load will only increase and amplify with this number one energy year, showing us where we simply can’t hold onto the old, misaligned energies anymore if we want to create and step into the new. The year 2026 will continue to be a time to release anything we’ve held onto from 2025, and also remind us that we are just beginning a brand-new foundation of self, which will take ample amounts of patience, commitment, devotion, and grit to forge a whole new path forward.

We are still slithering in the energetic year of the wood snake as well, until February 17, when the energy will shift into that of the fire horse, a time of power reclaiming, new momentum gaining, strength and courage building, and steam rolling us ahead. The year of the snake has stripped us. The year of the horse will rebuild us on a truer foundation of self, more rooted in our power again. The snake energy shed illusions, while the horse burns a path forward to expand and take action into our highest timeline. So we must shed the old, decaying skins for this final month of the snake energy so we can rise into our power and strength to carve our path into the unknown creation of the self we are becoming now.

This first full moon of 2026 in Cancer is reminding us of the emotional nature of the shedding, of the letting go, of the releasing. Because we can’t release what we aren’t willing to feel and emotionally process.

Many of us have been taught and programmed to avoid our emotions at all costs, running away, staying busy and productive, overworking, numbing, suppressing, and repressing our emotional truths because we were never taught to titrate with them, to be a spacious presence without drowning or identifying with them. As children especially, many of us were raised in family systems that had little to no emotional intelligence, let alone emotional capacity, healthy strategy, and safety. We unconsciously mirrored the external volatility of emotional agitation and limited capacity in our family systems by adopting this energy in our nervous systems. To flee, fight, freeze, or fawn when emotions stirred within and outside of us. Emotional healing work is not for the faint of heart or weak of spirit. But it is the crux of the inner work we came here to do. To reparent our inner child parts so we can become more integrated, whole, self-accountable, and safe individuals in our communities and in relationship with others. Cancer energy reminds us of these deep-held, emotional truths.

With the sun making its way through the earthy, grounded sign of Capricorn, Cancer’s counterpart, we are brought back to reality of the here and now. Capricorn season reminds us of the responsibilities we have to our soul, our path, and our service and work in the world. Capricorn energy is ruled by Saturn (keeper of time, karma, our responsibilities and earthly duties), so the pressure of choices made during this season weigh a little heavier, reminding us to stay in integrity and discern where we are heading next. We must utilize our wisdom to make the most aligned choices we can to reach our goals, Capricorn says.

Capricorn energy is the mountain goat energy that knows where we are climbing next and takes it step by step to reach the summit and mountain vista point. Slow, steady, and with great commitment to the future self we are building. Capricorn energy is the builder. The foundations we are building now to secure a more stable foundation of self and for our next chapter. Capricorn energy is the father, the inner archetypal protector and provider source. Capricorn energy reminds us to heal the inner masculine and father archetype within the self by creating structures that support us, boundaries that honor us, and true containment and safety of our emotional hearts. Whereas Cancer energy shows us the doorway to healing our inner mother wounds, where we learned patterns of self-abandonment in the name of receiving outside love, people pleasing behaviors, over-accommodating and tolerating others’ emotional abuse, forsaking our own inner safety, and enduring emotional harm. The wounds of the mother run deep into the patterns of self neglect, feeling unworthy of basic care, nourishment, and love. Reparenting and reconnecting to the inner mother and father energies within the self is the work of a lifetime.

This astrological season is as potent as it is deep, drawing upon our formative years of upbringing and childhood conditioning patterns. This full moon in Cancer brings us a feeling of emotional sensitivity for the hurts of the past we’ve endured and lingering patterns of self-abandonment that we are still mending and tending to. Cancer energy is deeply intuitive. Ruled by the moon, Cancer energy feels most at home here. A sense of coming home is felt with the moon in Cancer. Cancer energy rules the home, the family, our ancestral lineage, our roots, and the past. This full moon illuminates all facets of our inner emotional waters and connects us deeper to our intuition. Our intuition is our direct source to the divine, and yet many of us have been taught to override that subtle, quiet inner voice, heeding the voice of fear instead. Cancer energy reminds us to listen, to feel into our inner truth, and to trust our instincts and intuitive knowing.

This full moon is also known as the “Wolf Moon,” which lends itself to the instinctual energy of the Cancer crab. Sensing and intuiting when to retreat into its shell in self-protection and when to reach its claws outside of itself for connection that soothes the heart. Cancer energy rules the stomach (our gut instincts) and the breasts (the center-point of our emotional heart). Cancer energy seeks safety and comfort above all else. Cancer asks, Can we feel emotionally safe here? Can our hearts be held here? Can we soften our hardened shells here enough to be held in our own vulnerabilities?

This full moon energy is highlighting our emotional needs (Cancer) as well as our ambitions (Capricorn) and where there needs to be more balance between the two so as to not burn out or neglect ourselves emotionally. Can we forge and fortify our emotional safety and well-being while still reaching for long-term success of the visions we are building?

The full supermoon will be conjunct to Jupiter in Cancer, bringing an amplification of the emotional sensitivity and charge of the past we’ve carried with us into this new year. Jupiter expands all that it touches, so our intuition will be heightened here, as well as illuminating patterns of clinging onto anything that is emotionally heavy. We must feel and sense our way through this huge emotional release point. Jupiter wants our growth; Cancer wants the familiar of what was and has been safe, only growing more confining by the days and minutes we cling more tightly on. We can’t hold on to a false sense of safety much longer before the agitation of the soul gets even louder and more uncomfortable. Safety is only built in the expansion of our growth as much as we trust the emotional process needed to get us there. Jupiter in Cancer says growth and expansion come now through facing the emotions we have been too afraid to feel.

Aiding in this deep feeling process, the full moon is also aspecting in a loose square to Chiron (the wounded healer) still in Aries (our sense of self and identity). Chiron will also be making a square to Jupiter in Cancer, still retrograde until March 11. Chiron is making its final movements (besides a retrograde return) in the sign of Aries. Chiron will shift into Taurus on June 19 for a few sampling months of this energy of healing our wounds around money, safety, security, our resources, our self-worth, and our self-value. Chiron in Aries has been deep, down to the root and rot of us. To the crux of our wounds around our sense of self and identity. The wounds around our confidence and our courage. Of being who we came here to be. This full moon will be highlighting and amplifying our wounds in regards to self, yet again, in relation to the past, our perhaps repressed or buried emotional hurts and pains we’ve carried from childhood. Jupiter expands the wounds we want to run from. Shows us where we need to grow and evolve now to better integrate our healing self.

Our wounds may be louder during this full moon, but there’s also ample opportunity to soften, open our own hearts to the pain, and let compassion pour in deeper like honey around the ache, a balm for our own sensitive hearts. Cancer can have the utmost empathy and compassion for others, but can we foster that same care and compassion for our own hurt and healing parts? Jupiter in Cancer brings the past back up for review, not to punish us but to free us emotionally so we can move forward lighter and less encumbered on our paths, more open to the new growth and not emotionally burdened or weighed down. But we must feel our way through it. And not self-abandon any longer, awaiting rescue outside of ourselves, abdicating our own responsibility to heal our own hearts. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for; we only need to be brave enough to return home to the self and feel our way through.

The deep, emotional waters of Cancer are balanced out rather starkly with so much energy in Capricorn. The sun, Mercury, Venus, and Mars will all be in Capricorn for this full moon. A huge collaboration and stellium of energy here to ground us and remind us how to stay tethered to the earth, the practical and the realistic. Mercury in Capricorn brings a rooted, realistic, and pragmatic way of communicating with others now. Goal-oriented and future-minded, we seek to build new structures and foundations through the use and exchange of our words. A serious undertone to our exchanges with others bent on only giving our energy to what is meant to last and sustain us for the long haul. Our minds become realistic and more logical here. Venus and Mars in Capricorn bring a synergy to our relationships bent on future building and purpose. Are we fostering relationships with others that are not only emotionally connected and aligned but structurally and practically so for the foundations of self we are building? We take grounded, methodological action now, step by step, to reach our goals, a felt seriousness motivating our action steps. A pressure builds here. A felt responsibility. We can be crushed by it or we can be curated like gold, welding and welding like a metal worker, a welder of the soul alchemical process, the raw material of self turning into the glitter, grit, and strength of truer, solid self.

Our spiritual dreams and ideals are shifting and stabilizing again, coming back online, as Neptune stationed direct on December 10 of 2025. Neptune in Pisces has been removing the illusions, delusions, escapism habits, revealing to us through the fog our own inner clarity of soul becoming truth. Neptune will finally begin its 14-year-long brand-new cycle when it shifts into Aries on January 26, the beginning of a new spiritual era, joined by other outer planets entering brand-new signs and energies this year, heralding a new chapter is finally here. Neptune in Aries will launch us deeper into the sovereign path of soul becoming, opening us up to the courage and boldness we need to launch into our new frontiers. A time for raw action, individualism, creative rebellion, bold spiritual activism, and new beginnings on an individual and collective level.

This full supermoon energy is just the beginning and the end of a cycle of emotional shedding. A time to release emotional weight of the past so we can be freer to step into the new energy this year of 2026. A deep homecoming to our inner light and truth. To the home within the self we have been building and strengthening for many years now. To trust that our inner light is the only thing worth saving and protecting at all costs.

Honor the beauty and deep intelligence of the heart. Honor the heart for its bravery in opening to relational love even if the outcome of long-term success is never guaranteed. Because the heart knows that love is who we are and never truly abandons us. Your heart and its protection (and its inevitable reopening) has always been a worthy cause. Unburden your heart. Learn the deeper wisdom of the spiritual heart, when to armor up and when to soften. When to latch on tighter to that worth fighting for and protecting and when to loosen our crab-like claw grip on anything mis-aligned.

Allow this full moon to soften you. To illuminate your wounds with tenderness, compassion, and grace for the journey of human and soul you came here to feel and experience. Nurture yourself as you would a friend. Give care and nourishment to all parts of you. You are the most worthy of receiving your own light and love, after all. Your heart is your greatest asset. The way you love and love again is your greatest strength. To know that love is the current and the flow of all life, after all. Love never abandons us. We only open and close to it as we move through the pains and joys of life. As well-known poet and mystic Mark Nepo writes so wisely and astutely, “Through the opened heart, the world comes rushing in, the way oceans fill the smallest hole along the shore. It is the quietest sort of miracle: by simply being who we are, the world comes to fill us, to cleanse us, to baptize us, again and again.”

So, let this full moon energy cleanse you. Baptize you. Fill you. And nourish you. Release you from any emotional pain you’ve been holding onto out of fear of letting go. Release the heavy emotions that aren’t even yours but ones you’ve been absorbing from others hoping to help ease their own load and burden. You can’t save another from their own emotional waters they need to learn to swim in. Nor could anyone come to save you. You had and have had to learn how to swim. Let the waters of this full moon remind you that you can swim in your own depth of emotional waters. Let your inner waters be cleansed and renewed by your own alchemical process of emotional healing. Return to the waters within and around you. Let. Water. Flow. Through. You. Into. All. The. Cracks. And. Crevasses. Of. Hurt. And. Depletion. Of. Unworthiness. And. Lack. Of. Care. Let. This. Love. Remind. You. You. Are. So. Worthy. Of. Receiving. Let. Yourself. And. Heart. Receive. This. Medicine. Mother. Healing. Father. Protecting. You. Now. You. The Cosmic. Child. Of. The. Divine. Universe. Here. To. Remember. Yourself. Whole. Brave. Bold. Heart. Beating. To. The. Drum. Of. Inner. Light. Coming. Home. To. Yourself. Again. And. Again. And. Again. Welcome. Home. Aho. Amen. And so it is.
